An unregistered candidate for President of Belarus, Valery Tsepkalo, wrote an open letter to the presidents and Prime Ministers of 32 countries, including the United States, Germany, France, and great Britain, asking them to draw public attention to the anti-people policy pursued by the Belarusian regime. A photo of the open letter was published by Forbes.

Tsepkalo sent a letter to US President Donald Trump, canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as well as the leaders of Bulgaria, Hungary, Georgia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and other countries. Russia is not included in this list.

The opposition leader noted that Belarus has been ruled for 26 years by one person who created "an authoritarian regime that does not respect the basic values of a democratic society: the changeability of power, freedom of speech and expression, and basic human freedoms." According to him, the authorities actively prevent fair and free presidential elections, as well as exert pressure on all those who want justice and transparency of the electoral process.

Tsepkalo appealed to the leaders of the countries to support the holding of free and fair presidential elections and draw public attention to the anti-people policy pursued by the Belarusian regime. "Also, on behalf of the entire Belarusian people, I ask you to help organize international monitoring of elections and vote counting, and ensure transparency of this process for citizens of Belarus who are located on the territory of your free country. Our peoples are sometimes United by their cultural and historical heritage and close family ties. We understand the ideas of democracy and freedom equally, " the letter says.

He also listed the goals of the opposition, including transparency of elections, the election of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as the country's President, the release of all political prisoners, and the holding of new elections with the participation of all alternative candidates within three to six months.

For the presidency of Belarus in the upcoming elections will compete, in addition to incumbent Alexander Lukashenko, the wife of blogger-opposition leader Sergei Tikhanovski Svetlana, former MP Anna Konopacka, the leader of the campaign "Tell the truth" Andrei Dmitriev, the head of the party "Belarusian social-democratic Hramada," Sergei Chereshni. Ex-banker Viktor Babariko, who is considered one of Lukashenko's main rivals, and former head of the hi-tech Park Valery Tsepkalo were not registered as presidential candidates. In the end, the team of Svetlana Tikhanovski, Tsepkalo and Babariko decided to unite in order to compete with Lukashenko.

At the end of July, Tsepkalo's wife Veronika said that her husband had left for Russia with their children, fearing detention under far-fetched circumstances. "We didn't know what the circumstances were, but two days ago the Prosecutor's office came to the school where my children study and asked the teachers to write statements. As I understand it, they launched a process to deprive me of my parental rights, " Tsepkalo said. The ex-candidate himself clarified that he is currently in Moscow.
